5 Ways to fight laziness

Laziness is one of the most common problems people face when they’re trying to [accomplish a goal]. Sure, it’s easy to start full of energy and motivation. And we get it! Sometimes, even when you know doing something will help you reach your goal, getting started can be tough. So how can you fight laziness? Check out these five tips for curbing laziness and keeping yourself motivated:

1. Determine the cause of your laziness.

You’re sitting there, staring at a blank screen. And that’s not the worst part. No—the worst part is that you know exactly what you need to do and how to do it, but for some reason, you just can’t get started.

Or maybe you’ve made some progress on your project… but then you stopped. You’re stuck on getting it done, and now you just feel lazy.

But let’s stop using the word “lazy.” Because there’s nothing wrong with being lazy, per se—as long as it doesn’t prevent you from doing the things you want and need to get done.

So let’s start by figuring out what’s making you feel “lazy.”

2. Develop a plan and use it to change your habits.

I want to make a plan to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.

The nighttime is the best time of day for me to get adequate sleep, so I will set aside time at night to fall asleep.

I will avoid activities that distract me from sleep, such as phone games or TV.

I will do some sort of exercise in the mornings, and avoid coffee after 2 pm.

I will also use melatonin supplements to help me fall asleep.

3. Take time to reward yourself.

You deserve it!

We’ve all been there: the world is going so fast and everything seems to be piling up, and you feel like you’re the only one who could keep it from falling apart. It’s easy to get sucked into that kind of thinking, but we believe that taking time to slow down and give yourself a break is crucial in maintaining balance.

Well, we think about balance a lot—we make products for people who are balancing life, work, healing, fun, family, and more. And we know that sometimes, it can feel impossible to get all of those things in sync.

Now you can take time out of your day to relax and recharge—all while helping your body heal. It’s a win-win!

4. Get rid of distractions while you work.

You know that feeling when you’re working hard and you suddenly remember that you have a friend’s birthday coming up and you haven’t gotten them a gift?

Or when you’re trying to wrap up a project but your boss sends you an email asking for time-sensitive information? Or when your cat starts meowing and swatting at the door because she wants out but you can’t let her out because it’s raining?

These are all very serious distractions, and they can be hard to keep at bay. But what if we told you that with just a little bit of practice, you could learn how to focus on your work through any distraction?

We’ve put together a list of our favorite tips for staying focused on work, even in the face of all kinds of distractions.

If one doesn’t work for you, try another. You might find yourself surprised at how quickly you can get comfortable with this new way of working!

5. Don’t sweat the small stuff, but get ready to work hard.

I know it’s easy to think that maybe if you just had a little more time, or a little more money, or if you just had a better team, or if you only knew the right people—then things would start happening for you. I’m here to tell you that’s not true.

Making something happen—even something small—is hard work. You have to start from somewhere, and the only way to get there is by taking steps forward one at a time.

So don’t sweat the small stuff. The small stuff doesn’t matter. Instead, be ready to work hard and make it happen anyway.
